GUIDED TOUR AROUND SALAMANCA
This will last about three hours and participants
will have the chance to admire the more academic and cultural sides
of the city with its two universities, two cathedrals, and its many
ancient palaces and churches.
You will tiny streets brimming with history and life, creating a
spell that is not merely based on the actual monumental architecture
of the city. The streets and alleyways can be considered an amalgam
of the history of the city along the centuries. Within its air of
tranquility emanating from the ancient masonry, time has passed
accompanied by the joyful and invigorating noise of youth, both
defining the magic of Salamanca.
Your visit will take you to places such as the Main Square, the
Palace of Maldonado, the outside of the Catholic (Pontifical) University,
the historical buildings of the Lay University and the Convent of
Saint Stephen.

CIUDAD RODRIGO
Leaving Salamanca by bus, it takes about
an hour to get to Ciudad Rodrigo, and the trip offers the possibility
of observing the different and quite varied landscapes of our region.
In Ciudad Rodrigo you will be able to admire the city walls, the
Romanesque Cathedral from the Twelfth Century, and will be able
to take a stroll through the ancient cobbled streets.
In the second half of the 12th century, King Ferdinand II of Leon
completed the repopulation of the area, ordered the city to be walled,
reconstructed the old Roman bridge spanning the River Águeda,
and restored the bishopric, a development that later led to the
construction of the Cathedral.
AVILA
The trip from Salamanca to Avila is also
about one hour long. The city walls of Avila are emblematic of the
city. They represent a unique symbol that encompasses mysticism
and history, art, and heroic chivalry. Churches, convents and hermitages,
beautiful palaces, and the impressive cathedral attest to Avila's
character and identity. And it is here, in Avila, where you can
partake of the famous “Chuletón de Avila” (a
large (nay huge!)) steak considered to be made of the best beef
to be found in Spain).
LA ALBERCA
On the Excursion to La Alberca you
will be able to appreciate the typical landscape of the southern
part of the province of Salamanca and some of the nicest scenery
in the province, especially the valley of Las Batuecas.
This is the district's best-known village and La Alberca was in
fact the first of Spain's country villages to be declared a National
Historical Monument.
A wander through the streets of La Alberca with its quaint overhanging,
half-timbered houses -their system of construction unchanged for
hundreds of years- will have many visitors shaking their heads,
wondering whether they have somehow traveled back in time.
“LA
GRANJA”SELECTED WINERY
The Dehesa La Granja Winery (“where
time takes on a flavour and memory becomes an aroma...”) is
located in the province of Zamora, near Toro, in an area that was
once known as “Tierra del Vino”: the Land of Wine in
Spanish. It is the third winery founded by Alejandro Fernández
and has almost 800 hectares of varied lands on the banks of the
River Guareña.
The installations were formerly dedicated to producing wine, and
then to breeding fighting bulls, until Alejandro Fernández
refurbished it and dedicated it once again to its original purpose
of wine production
The Dehesa La Granja is no longer a dream and has become one of
the most beautiful properties in the vintners’ world. It is
a winery that respects the environment and strives to become integrated
within it.
The casks containing wine are stored in the vaults of the old cellars.
Regarding the peculiarities of the place where the grapes are grown,
these also have the personal and unmistakable touch of the Fernández
Rivera family.
One hundred and twenty-five men worked in the dark and silent confines,
only broken by the smashing sound of their hammers, for 17 years
between 1750 and 1767 and hewed away at the rock until they had
managed to create a startlingly beautiful labyrinth of passages
exceeding some 3,000 square meters.
